Why do we need to focus on training ladies ?

The heart of the GB ministry is to train up girls to face the challenges of modern living. In today's push for gender equity for both sexes, one may ask : Is there a need to train girls differently from boys? Should boys and girls not be given the same type of trainings? Is Girls'Brigade still relevant today?

I have been asked such questions before, especially so as some uniform organisations are for both gender to co-exist as members such as Scouts, St John Ambulance, Red Crescent.

This week while traveling, I read in MAS inflight October 2010 magazine what Datin Freida Pilus said about her Cempaka International Ladies College (CILC) and explained why she started the Malaysian first all-girls boarding school. She has been asked so many times, "Why for girls only?". As I ponder on her answer, I think it is relevant to the GB ministry as well!

  • Women are taking more responsible roles in various fields; the glass ceiling has been broken to smithereens in many countries. Girls should receive a strong educational foundation so that they can enter First Tier universities and contribute to the development of society.
  • When you educate a boy, you educate an individual; when you educate a girl, you will educate a family. Give girls a good educational upbringings, good personal and social values and they will then be able to being up and guide their children well.
  • Teenage (Secondary school) is the time girls form good learning and social habits, acquire poise and develop taste in everything, from dressing to art and music.
I cannot help but to nod my head in full agreement why training up girls in the ways of the Lord is important that has lasting effects. The impact is on future households scattered possibly all around the world as the girls choose where they want to settle down at. Hence, it has global impact!

As officers and leaders of the Girls' Brigade, lets arise and be counted that we are in the business of training ladies for life. A noble business, indeed !

Blind pilot
One day at a busy airport, the passengers on a commercial airliner are seated waiting for the pilot to show up so they can get under way.

The pilot and copilot finally appear in the rear of the plane and begin walking up to the cockpit through the center aisle. Both appear to be blind; the pilot is using a white cane, bumping into passengers right and left as he stumbles down the aisle. The copilot is using a guide dog. Both have their eyes covered with sunglasses.

At first, the passengers do not react thinking that it must be some sort of practical joke. After a few minutes though, the engines start revving, and the airplane begins moving down the runway.

The passengers look at each other with some uneasiness. They start whispering among themselves and look desperately to the stewardesses for reassurance.

Yet, the plane starts accelerating rapidly, and people begin panicking. Some passengers are praying, and as the plane gets closer and closer to the end of the runway, the voices are becoming more and more hysterical.

When the plane has less than twenty feet of runway left, there is a sudden change in the pitch of the shouts as everyone screams at once. At the very last moment, the plane lifts off and is airborne.

Up in the cockpit, the copilot breathes a sigh of relief and tells the pilot: "You know, one of these days the passengers aren't going to scream, and we aren't going to know when to take off!"

Girls, Welcome to 2010 Session !

The Girls' Brigade Sabah welcomes all the girls who have joined the GB Companies in churches, GB Clubs in schools from all over Sabah and Labuan to the 2010 session ! You have made the right choice to join us for the first time or as renewed members ! May you all be blessed this year through our GB ministry !

The GB Sabah is entering into the 41st year since its first GB Company establishment (1st KK GB Coy) in 1969. We look forward to another good year of training leaders !

Lets encourage one another with some New Year quotes :-

Every man should be born again on the first day of January. Start with a fresh page. Take up one hole more in the buckle if necessary, or let down one, according to circumstances; but on the first of January let every man gird himself once more, with his face to the front, and take no interest in the things that were and are past. ~Henry Ward Beecher

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day. ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

A teacher's purpose is not to create students in his own image, but to develop students who can create their own image. ~Author Unknown
